Groucho Marx as Political Theorist

Groucho Marx is reported to have said:  “I refuse to join any club that would have me as a member.”  We at the Bozosphere can relate to that.  We wouldn’t  want to have followers who waste spend their valuable time reading the Bozosphere blog.   But enough frivolity.

Lord Acton said:

“Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men, even when they exercise influence and not authority; still more when you superadd the tendency of the certainty of corruption by authority.”

Recently we have been surveying the political scene and it doesn’t look pretty.  We have no idea if Groucho knew the Acton quote, but it struck us that had he known it, Groucho might want to rise from the grave and say:   “I refuse to vote for anyone who chooses to run for President of the US.”

Perhaps we’re a bit too negative here, but many of those who run for public office may begin with some degree of integrity, but the moneyed nature of American politics and the corruption of the soul that it begets changes individuals for the worse.
